This work is the story of the remarkable African American leader who led the Azusa Street Revival in Los Angeles in 1906 and is credited for launching the twentieth-century American Pentecostal movement and several denominations. Blind in one eye yet in possession of remarkable spiritual vision, few believers are aware of Seymour. The son of ex-slaves was passionate about racial reconciliation and his desire for unity in the body of Christ has much to say to the Pentecostal movement and the entire church.

The Real First Lady is a glimpse into the life of Mother Grace Hill who served as Secretary of the State of New York for Church of Our Lord Jesus from 1925-1947. Her daughter, Ethel Mae Hill Bonner served as the First Lady of the organization for many years. This inspired work, the reprint of a limited publication manuscript, offers first-hand accounts and testimonies about the lives of these two extraordinary women.

These women were there as the Azusa Street Revival exploded a new spirituality onto the American religious scene and they all made significant contributions to the birth and early spread of the Pentecostal movement. Yet, when the story of one of the most important events of modern Christian history is told, many of their names are never heard so they have never received recognition they deserve. This expanded volume of my earlier work is an attempt to continue to correct this oversight.
